Hindu Mohajot Demands Swift Justice and Home Minister Resignation Over Rangpur Family Massacre Investigation

DHAKA — The Bangladesh National Hindu Mohajote on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Home Minister Salauddin Ahmed, alleging that the state administration is attempting to cover up the gruesome murder of a four-member family in Rangpur by scapegoating the Hindu community.
Govinda Chandra Pramanik, Secretary General of the organization, warned that if the actual perpetrators are not apprehended within 24 hours, the group would launch a nationwide protest program this coming Friday. The announcement was made during a human chain and protest rally held in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka.
The victims, retired Rangpur Zila School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, 50, their daughter Agami Chakraborty, 25, and son Ayush Chakraborty, 13, were found dead in their home in the Kamalkachna area of Rangpur on the night of August 22. Police have since arrested two suspects, Siddhartha Das, 19, and Mugdha Das, 23.
Pramanik dismissed the police investigation, claiming that authorities are rushing to close the case by pinning the murders on the two arrested individuals while ignoring the presence of unidentified men who were seen scouting the house on motorcycles from the evening prior to the incident until the following afternoon. He further alleged that the administration is leveraging Hindu officials within the investigative team to create a narrative that suggests internal community involvement, thereby shielding the true masterminds.
Addressing the rally, Pramanik called for the immediate removal of these Hindu officials from the investigation, arguing that the administration is using them to suppress the truth. He also raised concerns over alleged evidence tampering, citing a discrepancy regarding the clothing worn by one of the suspects at the time of his arrest, as reported by the suspect’s father.
Pramanik urged the Prime Minister to ensure an impartial investigation, stating that the public will not accept any concealment or manipulation of the case. The protest was presided over by Hindu Mohajote President Dinabandhu Ray and moderated by Student Mohajote President Sajib Kundu, with additional remarks from the organization’s Executive President Pradip Kumar Pal.
