Government Assures Sufficient Fertilizer Stocks Amid Distribution Reform Efforts

The Prime Minister’s Advisor for Information and Broadcasting, Jahed Ur Rahman, announced on Tuesday that there is no fertilizer shortage in the country and that current stocks are sufficient to meet demand. Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat, the advisor confirmed that the government has authorized significant imports to prevent any future supply gaps.

According to government data, national warehouse reserves currently exceed 1.36 million metric tons of fertilizer, surpassing the 1.3 million metric tons recorded during the same period in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Addressing reports of localized irregularities in fertilizer distribution, Advisor Jahed Ur Rahman acknowledged that the government is monitoring the situation and taking immediate corrective measures. He noted that the government is in the process of reforming the distribution system to better serve the interests of farmers and the general public. While these adjustments have caused temporary transitional challenges and some instability, the advisor stated that some dealers have failed to collect their allocated quotas, contributing to localized supply issues. He expressed confidence that these complications would be short-lived.

Regarding the national energy sector, the advisor discussed the current state of gas supplies, emphasizing the international context and existing challenges. He projected that it would take approximately two years to reach a stable and improved position in gas availability, though he clarified that this does not imply a decline from current service levels.

The press conference was attended by Minister of Information and Broadcasting Andalib Rahman Partha, State Minister for Information Yaser Khan Chowdhury, Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, and Principal Information Officer of the Press Information Department Syed Abdal Ahmad.
