BNP Expels Local Leader for Occupying Property of Former Awami League Official in Joypurhat

The residence of Belal Hossain, the general secretary of the Raikali Union branch of the Awami League in Akkelpur Upazila, Joypurhat, has been vacated following the expulsion of a local opposition leader who had occupied the property. Mizanur Rahman, joint general secretary of the Raikali Union branch of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), cleared his belongings from the premises after being formally expelled from his party.

Mosharraf Hossain, the organizing secretary of the Akkelpur Upazila BNP, confirmed the development on Tuesday. The expulsion came after local party leadership took action regarding allegations that Rahman had forcibly occupied the residence.

Rahman acknowledged his departure from the property. While he claimed he had not received formal notification of his expulsion, he confirmed he was aware of the public announcement regarding his removal from the party, which was disseminated via loudspeaker throughout the local area.

The incident follows a July 21 ultimatum issued by the Raikali Union BNP, which had given Rahman seven days to vacate the premises. Following his refusal to comply with the deadline, the owner’s wife, Shahnaz Begum, filed a formal written complaint with the Akkelpur Police Station.

The Akkelpur Upazila BNP committee moved to permanently expel Rahman on Sunday night. The decision was publicly broadcast across the union on Monday, prompting Rahman to remove his personal belongings from the home.

Shahnaz Begum expressed relief that the residence is now free of the occupation. Confirming her return to the property on Tuesday morning, she stated that the house has been vacated and further indicated that there are additional pending allegations against Rahman.
