Border Guard Bangladesh Confirms Seized Liquid Substance as Snake Venom Worth 385 Million Taka

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has confirmed that the liquid substance seized in Chirirbandar, Dinajpur, last week is genuine snake venom. The confirmation follows a chemical analysis of the substance conducted at the laboratory of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University.

The BGB headquarters media wing issued a press release on Friday detailing the findings. The substances were recovered eight days ago when border guards intercepted four individuals in possession of 5.7 kilograms of the liquid. Authorities have estimated the total value of the seized venom, the vehicle, and accompanying items at approximately 385.7 million taka.

The operation took place on August 13 in the Ambari area of Chirirbandar upazila. The joint mission was led by Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin Hasan, commander of the BGB Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB), with support from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) and an executive magistrate.

During the raid, officials seized the 5.7 kilograms of liquid, a private car, two motorcycles, four mobile phones, and six SIM cards. The four suspects detained during the operation were identified as Md. Jahangir Alam, 43, from Damur village; Md. Salauddin Sanju, 41, from Choto Gurgola village in Dinajpur Sadar; Md. According to BGB, the suspects admitted during interrogation to being members of an organized international smuggling ring. They confessed to previously trafficking snake venom across the border and stated that this shipment was also intended for illegal transport to a neighboring country. Following the raid, the suspects and the seized items were handed over to the Chirirbandar police station.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin Hasan emphasized that the BGB remains vigilant in preventing the trafficking of high-value illicit goods and wildlife products. He stated that the agency will continue to conduct intelligence-led operations to combat cross-border crimes, including drug trafficking, human smuggling, and the illegal trade of weapons.
