Chhayanaut Launches Global Online Music Education Program for International and Domestic Students

Chhayanaut, the premier cultural institution of Bangladesh, has officially expanded its music education curriculum globally by launching an online training program for students residing outside of Dhaka and abroad. The initiative, titled “Online Training for Expatriates and Music Enthusiasts Outside Dhaka,” marks a significant shift for the organization, which has traditionally limited its training to its physical campus in Dhanmondi.
The program was inaugurated Sunday during a press conference held at the Ramesh Chandra Dutta Memorial Hall within the Chhayanaut Sanskriti Bhaban. Following the institution’s tradition, the event commenced with a collective rendition of the song “Manush Ho.”
General Secretary Laisa Ahmad noted that the institution’s digital footprint has grown substantially since it began organizing national anthem performances via digital platforms in 2014. These advancements have now enabled the transition of core music education to a virtual format.
The primary online course, titled “Sangeet-Parichay,” is scheduled to run every Sunday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Bangladesh Standard Time. The curriculum covers Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet, and traditional folk music. According to the institution, 121 students have already enrolled across the children, adolescent, and general divisions. The current cohort includes 93 students from within Bangladesh, 12 from the United States, seven from Europe, and nine from Australia, Malaysia, and India.
A more advanced tier of the program, titled “Nibir Shikkhon” or Intensive Training, is set to begin on September 20. This specialized track will feature instruction from renowned artists Kiran Chandra Roy, who will teach folk music; Khairul Anam Shakil, focusing on Nazrul Sangeet; and Laisa Ahmad, instructing in Rabindra Sangeet. Detailed information regarding enrollment and course structures is available on the official Chhayanaut website.
Chhayanaut President Sarwar Ali stated that the institution has become the largest music school in the country, currently serving approximately 5,500 students across various programs. He expressed optimism regarding the expansion, noting that the institution has successfully transcended its physical boundaries to reach a global audience.
The press conference was attended by Chhayanaut President Sarwar Ali, General Secretary Laisa Ahmad, newly appointed Principal of the Chhayanaut Sangeet Bidyayatan Selina Malek Chowdhury, and program instructors Sharmin Sathi Islam, Mostafizur Rahman, Biman Chandra Biswas, and Tinku Kumar Shil.
