Protesters demand justice for student leader Monarul Islam Bokshi following fatal fall during police raid in Savar

SAVAR, Bangladesh — Demonstrators gathered on Sunday to demand a transparent investigation and justice for Monarul Islam Bokshi, a 29-year-old student leader who died after falling from a residential building at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) during a police operation.
The protest, organized by the BPATC Youth Welfare Association, took place near the main gate of the facility along the Aricha-bound lane of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway. The demonstration lasted from approximately 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monarul Islam Bokshi served as the vice president of the Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Savar unit.
Participants included the victim’s brother, Mamdel Hossain Bokshi, along with senior JCD officials, including Dhaka District North General Secretary Mahfuz Iqbal, Joint General Secretary Sujan Sikdar, and Vice Presidents Salman Shah and Sagar Hossain. Students from the BPATC School and College also joined the protest.
During the demonstration, Mamdel Hossain Bokshi alleged that his brother was murdered and called for swift legal action against those responsible for the incident. Mahfuz Iqbal echoed these sentiments, asserting that the officers involved, regardless of their rank or affiliation, must be held criminally liable. He demanded that a formal case be filed immediately and that the authorities refrain from delaying the judicial process.
The incident occurred last Thursday night when a joint team of police from Savar Model Police Station and Pirgachha Police Station in Rangpur conducted a raid on the BPATC residential complex. The officers were searching for a teenage girl reported missing in a general diary filed in Pirgachha, Rangpur, and had received information that she was staying in the apartment occupied by Monarul and his family.
Monarul, who died following the fall from the rooftop during the operation, lived in the apartment with his father, Jafar Ali, an employee of the training center. The family is originally from South Hatibandha in the Sundarganj area of Gaibandha district.
