Coxs Bazar Development Authority inaugurates Swapnachura housing project featuring 339 eco-friendly flats

The Cox’s Bazar Development Authority (KDA) has officially launched its inaugural residential housing project, “Swapnachura,” providing 339 apartments across four 15-story buildings. Nestled in the Adarshagram hill area near the Kolatoli bypass road, the development is situated just 1.5 kilometers from the sea, surrounded by a lush, green landscape.

Home Minister and Member of Parliament for Cox’s Bazar-1, Salahuddin Ahmed, inaugurated the project on Friday afternoon. During the ceremony, the keys to the apartments were handed over to the new owners. Addressing the event, the Home Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing Cox’s Bazar, noting that development must prioritize environmental preservation over concrete expansion. He advocated for the creation of eco-friendly cottages, resorts, and parks modeled after Singapore to attract international tourists.

The project, which broke ground in mid-2019 and was completed in June 2026, was designed with a focus on affordability and quality of life. According to KDA officials, the apartments were priced at 3,895 taka per square foot, a rate significantly lower than current market prices. More than 60 percent of the project’s total area has been left open, ensuring a spacious environment for residents.

Residents expressed relief at the transition from the city’s congested areas to the new development. Apartment owner Shahedul Islam noted that the project offers a respite from the traffic congestion and overcrowding of the main city, while providing easy access to the beach. Another resident, Kanak Sharma, highlighted the project’s role in providing a clean, healthy, and affordable living space for families.

The facilities at Swapnachura include modern waste management systems via garbage chutes, comprehensive fire safety measures, and spacious reception areas. Each tower is equipped with multiple staircases and dedicated emergency exits, with most units facing southeast to capture the coastal breeze. A walk from the housing complex to the beach takes approximately 10 minutes.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the KDA conference hall, was presided over by KDA Chairman Engineer Mohammad Jashim Uddin. Other notable attendees included Members of Parliament Shahajahan Chowdhury, Shamim Ara, and Alamgir Md. Mahfuz Ullah Farid, alongside District Commissioner Md. Abdur Mannan and Superintendent of Police Sajedur Rahman. Looking ahead, the KDA stated that further eco-friendly housing initiatives are being planned to address the needs of low and middle-income families in the region.
