Writer Zafar Iqbal Named in Investigation Report Over July Uprising Violence

Writer and professor Muhammed Zafar Iqbal has been named in a draft investigation report concerning crimes against humanity allegedly committed during the July mass uprising in Bangladesh. The disclosure was made Thursday by prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hussain Tamim.
According to the prosecution, the investigation centers on an attack at the University of Dhaka during the period of civil unrest, which resulted in hundreds of student protesters sustaining injuries.
In addition to Zafar Iqbal, the draft report identifies former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor A.S.M. Maksud Kamal and former Supreme Court Justice A.H.M. Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik as suspects in the case. Prosecutor Tamim confirmed that his office has officially received the preliminary findings and is currently reviewing the documentation as part of the legal proceedings.
