Dhaka North City Corporation excavates road in front of factory following official standoff

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has excavated the road directly in front of the Neptune Accessories Solutions factory in the capital’s Uttarkhan area, a move authorities describe as a necessary step for municipal drainage infrastructure.
The action followed a volatile confrontation on Sunday involving DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan and local lawmaker S.M. Jahangir Hossain. Tensions between the factory management and the city corporation have persisted for an extended period, centered on the disposal of waste near the facility.
According to reports, the factory had previously secured a court injunction to block the city’s waste disposal activities at the site. The manufacturer had long maintained that the city’s use of the area for dumping was illegal and disruptive to their operations.
City officials, however, have refuted claims that the road excavation was retaliatory. DNCC representatives stated that the work was initiated to construct a much-needed drainage line, an infrastructure project they claim had been repeatedly obstructed by the factory’s management. The city maintains that the road cut is essential to alleviate local waterlogging issues, regardless of the ongoing dispute regarding the adjacent premises.
