Russian University Student Returns Home for Burial After Fatal Fall

The remains of 27-year-old Anik Biswas, a Bangladeshi student who died after falling from a university building in Russia, were laid to rest in his home village in Kushtia on Sunday. The burial took place at his family graveyard following a funeral prayer at the local Saudatola Jame Mosque, an event attended by local lawmaker Amir Hamza and hundreds of mourning community members.
Biswas, the son of a farmer from Saudatola village in Kushtia’s Sadar upazila, had been pursuing higher education at the South Ural State University in Chelyabinsk. According to reports, he died on June 21 after falling from the roof of a five-story building on campus. His body arrived in his village approximately one month and 12 days after the incident, sparking scenes of profound grief among his family and neighbors.
Family members recall Biswas as a gifted and well-mannered student who had earned a scholarship to study in Russia about two and a half years ago. Prior to his departure, he had completed his undergraduate studies at Kushtia Government College, a milestone that had been a source of pride for the entire community. He is survived by his father and an elder brother.
While the circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear, the family has expressed uncertainty over whether the death was an accident or the result of other factors. Local officials, including Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Harun Or Rashid, stated that while they had not received a formal notification regarding the details of the tragedy, they are actively looking into the situation.
