Bodies of Four Missing Men Recovered Following Boat Capsizing in Sunamganj

Rescue workers have recovered the bodies of the final two missing passengers following a boat capsize in Sunamganj’s Moiyar Haor, bringing the total death toll to four. The bodies of Adhir Debnath, 50, and Hemendra Debnath, 55, were discovered floating in the haor on Sunday morning, prompting local residents to notify law enforcement.

The tragedy occurred during the early hours of Saturday when a small boat carrying nine passengers from Bhabanipur village capsized amid heavy rain and strong winds. The group had been returning home after attending a kirtan ceremony in the Baluchar area of Jagannathpur upazila. While five passengers managed to swim to safety as the vessel succumbed to the storm near Boithakhali, four individuals remained missing.

Fire service personnel and local recovery teams initiated a search operation immediately following the accident. On Saturday, rescuers recovered the bodies of 40-year-old Arun Debnath and 52-year-old Satindra Debnath. The recovery of the remaining two victims on Sunday morning concluded the search efforts.

Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur Police Station, confirmed that the bodies were handed over to the families without autopsies, as relatives expressed no grievances regarding the circumstances of the incident.
