Brac Bank Launches Bangla QR at Brac University to Promote Cashless Campus Payments

Brac Bank has officially launched the “Bangla QR” payment system at Brac University’s Merul Badda campus, marking a significant expansion of Bangladesh Bank’s initiative to transition the nation toward a cashless economy.
The service was inaugurated last Thursday by Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mesbaul Uddin, who utilized the event to engage students in a dialogue regarding the central bank’s broader strategy for digital financial inclusion. During the session, the Governor addressed student inquiries concerning the utility of QR-based payments and the systemic requirements for building a robust digital payment ecosystem.
Organized with the assistance of the university’s Finance and Accounting Club, the event highlighted the strategic partnership between the banking sector and academic institutions. Brac Bank Managing Director and CEO Selim R. F. Hussain emphasized that the integration of this technology serves as a testament to how digital solutions can streamline daily transactions, making them faster and more secure. He expressed pride in the bank’s role in facilitating what is being framed as one of the country’s first cashless campus initiatives.
Brac University Vice-Chancellor Syed Ferhat Anwar described the adoption of Bangla QR as a bold step toward fostering an inclusive society and economy. However, he noted that the long-term success of such digital transitions remains contingent upon ensuring equitable access to stable internet connectivity and smart devices for the general population.
Under the new initiative, the entire financial ecosystem within the Brac University campus, including various vendor payments and student transactions, will transition to digital channels. Users can now conduct all campus-related financial activities using Bangla QR and other integrated digital banking platforms.
