Police rule out foul play in incident involving Prime Minister convoy in Madaripur

Madaripur Police Superintendent Habibur Rahman has officially denied allegations that stones were thrown at a vehicle convoy carrying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her journey to Barishal on Monday. In a press briefing held at his office on Tuesday, the police official clarified that the incident was purely accidental, resulting from road debris kicked up by a vehicle’s tire rather than a deliberate attack.
The incident occurred as the Prime Minister’s convoy traveled along the Dhaka-Barishal highway near the Sadhur Bridge bus stand in the Rajoir area. Following the event, video footage circulated on social media, prompting local authorities to file a general diary at the Rajoir Police Station to investigate the circumstances surrounding the damage to a security vehicle.

In response to the speculation, a comprehensive investigation was launched involving multiple intelligence agencies, including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). According to Superintendent Rahman, field visits and eyewitness interviews confirmed that no objects were thrown at the convoy. Evidence suggests that a piece of brick lying on the roadway was dislodged by the wheels of a lead vehicle, causing it to strike the windshield and engine hood of the following security detail.
Authorities also addressed concerns regarding a youth who had been identified in the viral video. Upon thorough review of the footage and subsequent questioning, investigators determined that the individual was merely recording the convoy’s passage with his mobile phone. The police concluded that the incident was an unfortunate result of road conditions, categorically ruling out any foul play or intentional disruption of the Prime Minister’s security protocols.
