Traffic police officer apprehends professional thief in Dhaka after roadside mobile phone snatching

A traffic sergeant apprehended a suspected professional snatcher in Dhaka’s Pallabi area on Friday after the individual brazenly stole a mobile phone from a moving vehicle.
The incident occurred at the Kalshi intersection at approximately 12:30 p.m. According to a press release from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Sergeant M.S. Mahmud Ali of the Pallabi Traffic Zone was conducting routine vehicle inspections when he signaled a microbus to pull over. While the officer was engaged in checking the driver’s documentation, he witnessed a man forcibly snatch a mobile phone from one of the passengers inside the vehicle.
The suspect, identified by police as 29-year-old Md. Manik, immediately attempted to flee the scene on foot. Sergeant Ali initiated a swift pursuit and successfully detained Manik before he could escape the intersection.
Authorities confirmed that the stolen device was recovered during the arrest and promptly returned to its owner. Manik has been handed over to the Pallabi police station, where officers are currently processing legal proceedings against him. Police have described the detained man as a professional criminal with a history of theft.
