Hundreds of football fans clad in Argentina’s signature sky-blue and white jerseys converged on the Institute Grounds in Dinajpur on Friday, turning the city streets into a vibrant display of support for their favorite World Cup team. Waving flags of various sizes, supporters of all ages—from children and teenagers to the elderly—gathered in the late afternoon to demonstrate their allegiance and bolster the morale of the Argentine squad.

The procession, which commenced shortly before 5:00 p.m., evolved into a massive rally as fans took to the streets on foot, followed by a long line of motorcycles, electric rickshaws, and pickup trucks. The route wound through several prominent city landmarks, including Modern Mor, Charubabu Mor, Maldahapatti, Munshipara, Lily Mor, and Jail Mor, before concluding back at the Institute Grounds.

The event, which was largely organized through grassroots social media outreach rather than a formal committee, drew participants from across the region. Fifty-two-year-old Sohail Rana, a lifelong supporter, noted that the turnout was a spontaneous reaction to an online call for fans to gather. Expressing optimism for the upcoming tournament, he highlighted the presence of global icon Lionel Messi as the primary reason for his enduring faith in the team’s ability to defend their championship title.

For many, the rally served as a powerful social connector. Twenty-five-year-old Sabbir Hasan, who traveled from the rural Biral upazila after learning of the event online, joined the procession with a group of friends. He remarked that participating in the event provided him with a newfound sense of community, allowing him to witness the sheer scale of the local fan base firsthand.

The festive atmosphere attracted families as well, including local teacher Mamur Hossain, who attended the rally with his children. Demonstrating the deep-rooted popularity of the Argentine team, Hossain shared that his fifth-grade son has memorized the names of every player on the current roster, a testament to the team’s significant cultural impact in the region.
