Bangladesh Bank official found dead in Dhaka apartment

Police in Dhaka have launched an investigation into the death of Tanvir Hossain Shuvo, an additional director at the Bangladesh Bank, after his decomposed body was discovered in his apartment late Tuesday night. The victim’s brother, Tanim Hossain Shawon, filed a case of unnatural death at the Mugda Police Station following the grim discovery.
Officers broke into the residence in the Ahmadbagh area of North Mugda at approximately 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a foul odor emanating from the premises. Upon entry, investigators found the official’s body suspended from the ceiling.

According to preliminary police reports, the 40-year-old had been living in isolation for several years. Following a divorce in 2012, Shuvo remained unmarried and had no children, a domestic situation that family and authorities suggest may have contributed to a period of deep psychological distress.
Sub-Inspector Borhan Uddin Bhuiyan stated that the property owner last saw Shuvo on May 28, the day of Eid-ul-Adha. The body remained undiscovered until the homeowner alerted authorities on Tuesday.

While the circumstances of the death remain under official review, the victim’s family has indicated that they currently have no reason to suspect foul play. Tanim Hossain Shawon noted that their final communication with his brother occurred on the eve of the Eid holiday. Investigators are now awaiting the results of a formal autopsy to confirm the cause of death and provide further clarity into the timeline of the tragedy.
