The parents complained against the drug addict son. On that charge, the son has been accused of hacking his father to death after returning home after a month of imprisonment. The incident took place in Moulvirkum area of ​​Chakaria Municipality of Cox’s Bazar around 2.30 pm today.

The name of the deceased is Khalilur Rahman (60). He is a resident of Maulvirkum area. He used to sell tea and drinks in a small shop in the area.

After the incident, local people arrested the accused son Minarul Islam (30) and beat him up. He was later confined to a community centre. On receiving the information, the Chakaria police station reached the spot and took Minarul to the police station.

Eyewitnesses said that Minarul Islam stopped his father Khalilur Rahman on his way home after Friday prayers. At one stage, Elopatadi is angry with sharp teeth. Khalilur Rahman’s left wrist was severed and a part of his arm was almost severed. He was seriously injured when local people rescued him and took him to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Local residents said that Minarul Islam has been addicted to drugs for a long time. Fed up with his behavior, parents filed a written complaint with the executive magistrate of Chakaria upazila a month and a half ago. Based on that complaint, the mobile court sentenced Minarul to one month imprisonment. He was released from jail 10 to 11 days ago. Local people said that he had a grudge against his father since then. He had an argument with his father on Thursday afternoon as well. Later local people calmed down the situation.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station Mohammad Monir Hossain told Prothom Alo that Minarul Islam is addicted to drugs. The family was happy with his activities. Because of this, parents complained against him. It was initially reported that Minarul had hacked his father to death out of that anger.

OC Mohammad Monir Hossain also said that Minarul is in police custody. The body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
