Bogura boat capsize: Nine rescued, one woman missing

A passenger boat capsized in the Jamuna River in Dhunot upazila, Bogura, amid a storm, leaving ten people, including the boatman, missing. Nine individuals have since been rescued alive, while one woman remains unaccounted for.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in the Baniarjan area of Bhandaribari Union. Local residents and administrative officials are currently engaged in a search operation for the missing woman.
According to local sources, nine women had traveled to Baishakhi Char earlier in the morning in search of livelihoods. As a storm began around 11:30 a.m., they boarded a boat to return to shore. The vessel, carrying the nine passengers and the boatman, lost balance in the middle of the river and capsized within seconds due to the strong current. Those who could swim managed to survive, but one person was submerged. Local fishermen initiated a rescue effort with their own boats before administrative personnel arrived at the scene to assist.
Dhunot Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arif Ullah Nizami confirmed that nine people, including the boatman, were rescued alive with the help of local residents. However, he stated that a woman named Angur Begum is still missing, and a search operation is underway in the river to find her.
