Police Officers Home Burgled in Noakhali, Cash and Jewelry Stolen
A police officer’s home in Subarnachar, Noakhali, was allegedly ransacked by a group of miscreants who made off with 10 bhori of gold ornaments and 6 lakh Bangladeshi Taka in cash during a robbery in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident occurred around 1:30 AM in the Shantiar Haat Bazar area of Ward 4, Purbo Charbata Union, according to local police and residents.
The victim, Md. Rifat Hossain, serves as a Sub-Inspector (SI) with the Cumilla District Police. His family resides in the area, where his father, Azad Mia, is a local resident.

Police and local accounts indicate that a group of armed individuals arrived at the house in a motorcycle and a private car. They gained entry by cutting the window grills of the concrete building. Once inside, the perpetrators allegedly broke into a steel wardrobe, seizing the gold jewelry and the substantial sum of cash.
Family members present at the time, including SI Hossain’s mother and younger sister, reportedly attempted to resist the robbers but were threatened with sharp weapons. The miscreants eventually fled the scene when neighbors, alerted by the family’s screams, began to approach the house.

Speaking to *Prothom Alo*, SI Rifat Hossain confirmed that only his mother and younger sister were at home during the incident. He detailed how his mother awoke to the sound of breaking glass from the Thai glass windows being removed, then saw three individuals inside and screamed, prompting the threats. Hossain added that the stolen 6 lakh Taka was cash from his elder brother’s business.
Md. Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Char Jabbar Police Station, informed *Prothom Alo* that the family has lodged an initial complaint regarding the theft of gold ornaments and money after intruders entered by cutting window grills. He stated that the family has been asked to submit a written complaint, after which a thorough investigation and necessary legal action will be initiated.
