On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, allotment of rooms for women passengers in trains
Supreme Court lawyer Mumtaz Parveen filed a writ in the High Court on January 13, 2021, challenging the inaction in implementing Sections 64 and 119 of the Railway Act of 1890. The High Court ruled on the preliminary hearing on March 10 of that year.
In continuation of that writ five years ago, the writ petitioner filed the supplementary application seeking allotment of rooms for women passengers in every passenger train on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Advocate Ajmal Hossain Khokon appeared on behalf of the petitioner in the court. Deputy Attorney General Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman was in the hearing for the state.

According to the counsel for the writ petitioner, section 64 of the Railways Act, 1890 requires that every train have reserved rooms for women. In case of trains traveling more than 50 miles, a toilet is said to be attached to that room. Penalty for unauthorized entry is mentioned in Section 119. In the context of non-implementation of those two clauses, the writ was filed in 2021.
