Prothom Alo’s ‘Tabu Matha Noabar Nai’ got the best recognition

Taken to the audience, its recognition comes from One-Ifra, the world’s largest association of news publishing houses and entrepreneurs. For this, Prothom Alo won gold in the ‘Best Marketing Campaign for a News Brand’ category at the One-Ifra Digital Media Awards South Asia 2026.

Apart from this, the video report ‘Bloody Highway: Jatrabari Massacre’, made on the killings carried out by law enforcement forces in Jatrabari, Dhaka during the July mass uprising, won the Prothom Alo Silver in the ‘Best Use of Video’ category.

This information was informed in a press release published on the website of One-Ifra (World Association of News Publishers) on Wednesday. This year, the One-Ifra Digital Media Awards received more than 100 applications from South Asian media in 12 categories. One-Ifra said digital media experts, editors and industry leaders reviewed the applications, taking into account innovation, audience impact and journalistic excellence, and announced the shortlisted for the award. According to them, Prothom Alo has been selected for the award in two categories.

One-Ifra is the main association of more than 3,000 news publishing organizations and entrepreneurs in more than 120 countries around the world. Last year, Prothom Alo received the best award in two categories in ‘Sustainability and Print Innovation Awards 2025’, a global event organized by One-Ifra. This recognition comes from Prothom Alo as the only media in Bangladesh.

The gold winners at ONE-IFRA Digital Media Awards South Asia 2026 will participate as finalists in ONE-IFRA’s global event ‘World Digital Media Awards’. The top finalists from 78 countries around the world will compete for the global title in 12 categories. The final winners will be announced at the World News Media Congress 2026 in Marseille, France next June. Prothom Alo’s campaign titled ‘Tabu Matha Noabar Nai’ is competing there.

This campaign was conducted around the incident of attack and arson at Prothom Alo office on December 18 last year. Under this, through the publication of news reports, articles, videos and other reports, the details of the attack, the devastation caused by the attackers and the fact that Prothom Alo is moving forward with the conviction of persevering in revealing the truth are highlighted. Prothom Alo takes the belief that ‘truth cannot be burned’ through various activities. The issue is widely highlighted in print, online and social media, including writing, pictures, videos. The spontaneous participation and solidarity of the readers-viewers gives strength, depth and breadth to the campaign.

‘Bloody Highway: Jatrabari Murder’

Prothom Alo won silver in the ‘Best Use of Video’ category for the investigative documentary titled ‘Bloody Highway: Jatrabari Murder’. The documentary was produced by Abdullah Al Hossain, Senior Content Creator of Prothom Alo.

On August 5, the last day of the mass uprising of 2024, law enforcement forces from Jatrabari police station, one of the gateways of the capital Dhaka, along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, brutally brutalized and killed people. This documentary shows in detail how 60 unarmed people were killed within one kilometer of this highway in seven hours.

Another newspaper of Bangladesh, The Daily Star, received the best award in this category. Apart from that, this English media of Bangladesh also won silver in the ‘Most Innovative Digital Product’ category.

The South Asia Awards will be presented to the winners on June 25 in Delhi, India. Gold-winning media outlets in other categories include India’s The Hindu (Best AI-Driven News Product, Format or Strategy and Best News Website), Collective Newsroom (Best Data Visualization and Best in Countering Disinformation), Spot On (Best Emerging News Providers), Hindustan Times (Best in Audience Engagement and Most Innovative Digital Product), Financial Times (Best Newsletter), Deutsche Welle (Best Use of Audio), The Daily Star (Best Use of Video) and Monorama Online (Best Reader Revenue).

Prothom Alo has bagged a total of 11 awards, including two golds, in the one-ifra South Asian event in the past years. Apart from this, Prothom Alo has received a total of 11 awards including two first prizes in addition to the ‘Best of South Asia’ in the ‘INMA Global Media Awards’ organized by INMA (International News Media Association), a global organization of more than 1000 media organizations from more than 100 countries.
