Attack on the police in Faridpur, relatives snatched away the accused with handcuffs

His relatives and followers attacked the police in Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur and snatched away an accused with handcuffs. The incident took place at Char Salepur Munsirchar Bazar area of ​​Char Harirampur Union of the upazila around 7:30 am on Tuesday.

Accused Kabir Khan (45) is the son of deceased Surman Khan of Char Salepur village of Char Harirampur union. He is the President of Char Harirampur Union Awami League (activities banned). There is a case against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Charbhadrasan police station.

According to police and local sources, five policemen led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafikuzzaman of Charbhadrasan Police Station raided Munsirchar Bazar and arrested Kabir Khan this morning. Kabir’s elder brother Surya Khan obstructed the police while handcuffing him and taking him to the motorcycle. Within moments, 10 to 15 of Kabir’s relatives and followers ambushed the police and took him away in handcuffs. In the attack, SI Rafikuzzaman’s right hand was injured and other policemen were injured. The injured policemen were treated at Charbhadrasan Upazila Health Complex.

Eyewitnesses said that shortly after the incident, Kabir Khan was seen walking around Munsirchar Bazar area without handcuffs. Later, the police recovered the handcuff from an abandoned place in the market and took it to the police station.

Char Harirampur Union Parishad (UP) panel chairman Billal Hossain said that Kabir was handcuffed on one hand and held by the police on the other hand. After Kabir’s followers and relatives came and attacked him and took him away, the handcuffs were recovered by the local UP members and the village police and submitted to the police station.

Charbhadrasan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said, ‘Awami League leader Kabir Khan is accused in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act. When our five policemen went to arrest him, they were attacked and the accused was abducted by his relatives and followers. The policemen were treated at the hospital. In this incident, a case is being filed on charges of obstruction of government work and assault on the police. Efforts are on to arrest the accused Kabir Khan.
