Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team Bowlers Fined, Penalized for Code of Conduct Breaches

Two Bangladeshi cricketers, Nahida Akter and Sarmin Sultana, have been fined 10% of their match fees and received one demerit point each from the International Cricket Council following breaches of the code of conduct during the second One-Day International against Sri Lanka in Rajshahi.

The penalties stem from violations of separate Level 1 articles of the ICC’s Code of Conduct. As this marks their first offense within the last 24 months, no additional sanctions were imposed.

Nahida Akter was cited for an “animated celebration” after dismissing Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu in the 17th over, an action deemed contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship.

Sarmin Sultana, who was dismissed leg before wicket in the 16th over, delayed her departure from the field and gestured towards her bat in apparent dissatisfaction with the umpire’s decision. This was interpreted as a lack of respect towards the on-field official.

The charges were brought forward by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Rokeya Sultana, third umpire Dolly Rani Sarkar, and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir Jessi. Both players admitted to the offenses before match referee Supriya Rani Das, accepting the penalties without the need for a formal hearing.
