A septuagenarian farmer and his daughter-in-law passed away within a span of ten and a half hours in Subornochar upazila of Noakhali, leaving the local community deeply stricken with grief over the tragic sequence of events.
The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Md Mofijur Rahman, a resident of Noyapara village under Ward 7 of Char Amanullah union, and his 32-year-old daughter-in-law Rahina Akhter, who was the wife of Mofijur's second son, Md Alamgir Hossain. Mofijur breathed his last on Saturday night around 11:00 PM, while Rahina passed away the following morning on Sunday at approximately 9:30 AM.
According to local Union Parishad member Md Kamal Uddin, Mofijur was widely known as an affectionate and protective patriarch who deeply cherished his family members. The bond between Mofijur and his daughter-in-law was exceptionally close, with the elderly farmer holding a deep affection for Rahina, who in turn regarded him with the love and respect she would accord to her own biological father.
Recounting the heartbreaking succession of tragedy, local representatives explained that Rahina broke down in uncontrollable tears upon receiving the news of her father-in-law's demise. While wailing in profound grief, she lost consciousness in the early hours of Sunday. Family members promptly summoned a local rural medical practitioner to administer emergency treatment, but despite their efforts, the young housewife succumbed to her grief and passed away by mid-morning.
Local residents gathered on Sunday to bid their final farewells to the family, with the funeral prayers for Mofijur held at the local Aziziya Kachchhap Market Jame Mosque ground at 11:30 AM, followed by the funeral prayers for Rahina after sunset. The rare and devastating occurrence of a daughter-in-law dying from profound shock immediately following the death of her father-in-law has cast a profound pall of sorrow over the entire neighborhood.
