Viral Donald Trump-named albino buffalo transferred from Dhaka Zoo to research institute

The albino buffalo famously named “Donald Trump,” which captured international headlines ahead of this year’s Eid al-Adha, has been relocated from the National Zoo in Mirpur to the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) in Savar. The transfer, confirmed by National Zoo Director Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Talukdar, was executed on Sunday following formal directives from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

Officials reported that the animal was in good health at the time of the transfer. The buffalo was originally moved to the National Zoo on May 28, just a day before Eid, after gaining significant notoriety for its unique physical appearance and its moniker, which was inspired by the hair of the former U.S. President.

The animal was initially raised at the Rabeya Agro Farm in Narayanganj, owned by Ziauddin Mridha. It became a social media sensation after being sold to Moniruzzaman, a resident of Keraniganj. The buffalo’s departure from the farm was marked by a theatrical farewell ceremony, featuring a red carpet and colored smoke, which further amplified its celebrity status in local and international media.

The spectacle prompted intervention from the Ministry of Home Affairs, leading to the animal’s seizure by police from the buyer’s home. Since then, the buffalo had been housed at the national facility in Dhaka, where it became a focal point of curiosity for zoo visitors before being moved to the research institute this week.
