Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal leader critically injured in armed attack in Ishwardi

Unknown assailants shot at and severely wounded Shariful Islam, the 40-year-old convener of the Ishwardi Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal, in Pabna late Wednesday night. The attack occurred near Joynagar Kindergarten in the Salimpur Union at approximately 11:45 p.m.

Eyewitnesses reported that Islam was driving his private vehicle home to Joynagar when unidentified attackers opened fire on his car. After forcing the vehicle to a halt, the assailants dragged Islam out and attacked him with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.

Local residents rushed the victim to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex for initial treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Enamul Haque, general secretary of the Ishwardi Upazila Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Sangstha, stated that Islam suffered deep wounds to his face and various parts of his body, and his condition remains critical.

Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ashadur Rahman confirmed that officers have inspected the crime scene. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, and police are currently conducting operations to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
