Two farmers killed by downed power line in Chittagong paddy field

Two farmers were electrocuted on Sunday after a downed power line fell into a paddy field in the Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram, authorities confirmed. The victims, identified as Muhammad Hashem and Muhammad Yunus, residents of Mirerkhil village in the Bhujpur union, were working in a field in the Paindong union’s Chowdhurypara area when the incident occurred.
According to local witnesses, the two men had been planting Aman rice seedlings since early Sunday morning. At approximately 3:30 p.m., a live wire snapped from a nearby utility pole and fell into the water-logged field. The farmers were struck by the current and died at the scene.
Bipul Chandra Dey, officer-in-charge of Bhujpur Police Station, reported that the wire had snapped due to light winds passing through the area. Law enforcement officials have recovered the bodies, and the victims have been sent to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies as part of the formal investigation process.
