Two brothers hacked to death in Faridpur, one ‘almost amputated’

Due to a previous dispute over dominance and control of drug trade in Charbhadrasan of Faridpur, two brothers were hacked by the opponent. One of them had his arms and legs almost severed. The incident took place at Dangi village of Fazelkha in Sadar Union of the upazila at around 7:30 pm on Saturday.

The injured persons are Haider Munshi (46) and Sujan Munshi (31), two sons of deceased Dhala Munshi, residents of Dangi village in Fazelkha. Both of them are masons by profession. Meanwhile, Haider has been sent to the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute (NITOR) in a critical condition.

According to local sources, Kalam Mondal (38) and Sujan Munsi of Dangi village in Fazelkha have been in dispute for a long time over the dominance of the area and the control of drug trade. Yesterday afternoon at the Baisakhi fair of Dangi village in Fazelkha, there was a verbal altercation between the two sides. As a result of this, a group of miscreants including Kalam Mondal (38), Sattar Mondal (32), Shah Barat Mondal, who were taking vows in front of the house, attacked Sujan Munsi at around 7:30 in the evening. They attacked Sujan’s left wrist with a sharp weapon.

After some time Sujan’s elder brother Haider Munshi was also attacked while returning home by the same route. When Haider took shelter in Halim Fakir’s kitchen to save his life, miscreants entered there and hacked him. Haider’s right leg and right hand and left wrist were severely injured by sharp weapons. The two injured brothers were first taken to Charbhadrasan Upazila Health Complex. From there they were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Mizanur Rahman, the medical officer of Charbhadrasan Upazila Health Complex, who provided first aid to the two injured brothers, said, “Haider has injuries on all three hands and feet.” We have sent his right leg and right hand to Faridpur almost severed.

Faridpur Medical College Hospital trauma department doctor. Rashid said that among the injured, Haider Munsi’s condition is critical. He has serious injuries on two hands and one leg. One of his hands and one leg can be said to be almost severed. He was sent to Dhaka last night after primary treatment. Another brother Sujan is currently admitted in this trauma center.

Injured Sujan Munshi told reporters as to the reason for the attack, “Three years ago, a fight took place between Ripon Khan and Kalam Mandal in our village in front of my brother. In that incident, the accused did not do anything to make my brother a witness in the case. From that time Kalam’s anger, my brother witnessed why. That’s why my brother was called. When I found out and ran, he first scolded me with Ramada. Then my brother started scolding. My brother ran to a house and escaped but was dragged out from there and hacked to death.

Regarding the incident Charbhadrasan Sadar Union Parishad member of Ward No. 5 said. Babul Molla said that both parties are identified as evil people in the area. However, there are more allegations of misdeeds against Kalam Mandal and his people in the village. He said, “Some of them work as masons, and some are expatriates. They came to the area and got involved in various misdemeanors including drugs.

None of the accused Kalam Mandal, Sattar Mandal and Shah Barat Mandal could be reached for comment on the allegations. Since they are absconding since the incident, their mobile numbers are also blocked. Niru Begum (64), the mother of the two injured, said, “My two sons are innocent boys.” They work and eat rice. I want justice for those who attacked them and amputated their hands and feet.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Charbhadrasan police station. Anwar Hossain confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the attack occurred due to a dispute over local sovereignty. The police went to the spot soon after receiving the information. In this incident, Haider’s mother Niru Begum has filed a case last night naming Kalam Mandal, Sattar Mandal and Shah Barat as the plaintiff and accused some unknown others. Multiple teams of police are conducting operations to arrest the accused in the case.
