Tree falls on home, killing school student

A young schoolboy died after a tree fell onto his home during a storm in Chandpur’s Matlab North Upazila on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. in Torakikanda village, Gajra Union, when a large tree, uprooted by heavy rain and wind, crashed onto the tin roof of the dwelling.
The victim, identified as 11-year-old Md. Faiz, was asleep in one of the rooms of his house when the tree collapsed, crushing the roof and striking him. Faiz, a fourth-grade student at a local government primary school, sustained severe injuries to his head and body.
Family members and local residents reported that Faiz was alone in the room at the time of the incident. While other family members were in different parts of the house and unharmed, Faiz’s screams alerted relatives and neighbors. They attempted to rescue him, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene before he could be taken to a hospital.
Faiz’s father, Abu Taher, tearfully recounted the tragedy, stating he never imagined such a fate for his son and that the damaged structure of their home contributed to the roof and tree falling.
Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kamrul Hasan of Matlab North Police Station confirmed the child’s death. He noted that no formal complaint has been filed, and permission for burial has been granted following a request from the family.
