Teenager rescued after arm becomes trapped in tree hollow during bird rescue attempt

An 11-year-old boy was rescued Friday evening after spending five hours trapped inside the hollow of a tree in Sonajur village, located in the Atpara subdistrict of Netrokona. The boy, identified as Zarif Mia, became stuck while attempting to retrieve a bird from the tree.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. when Zarif climbed a rain tree and inserted his left arm into a deep crevice in search of a hatchling. When his limb became firmly lodged, he and local residents attempted to free him independently but were unsuccessful. As the boy’s distress grew, family members alerted the Atpara subdistrict administration and the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Rescuers from both the local and district fire service units arrived on the scene to conduct a delicate operation to extract the child. The mission concluded successfully at 6 p.m., when crews managed to free him from the tree trunk.
Md. Zakir Hossain, deputy assistant director of the Netrokona Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the details of the rescue operation. Following his release, Atpara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Shahanur Rahman reported that the boy was in stable condition and had suffered no serious injuries.
