Tailor murdered in targeted attack in Hathazari

A 48-year-old tailor was shot and hacked to death by a group of assailants in Hathazari, Chittagong, on Friday morning, in what police believe to be the result of a long-standing local feud. The victim, Muhammad Azam, was fishing in a field near his home in Mekhal village when he was ambushed by the attackers around 9:30 a.m.

According to police and family members, the assailants first shot Azam in the leg before attacking him with sharp weapons. His body was recovered by local authorities at approximately 12:30 p.m. While Azam primarily earned his livelihood as a home-based tailor, officials revealed that he also served as a police informant, which may have contributed to the tensions leading to his death.

Hathazari and Fatikchhari police circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Tareq Aziz confirmed that the victim sustained multiple gunshot and hacking wounds. He noted that the assault stemmed from deep-rooted conflicts with several local residents.

Hathazari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Zahidur Rahman stated that investigations are underway, with allegations pointing toward a local man named Didarul as the primary orchestrator of the attack. Police described Didarul as a known criminal and outlaw with at least eight outstanding cases against him. Law enforcement agencies have launched an operation to apprehend the suspects involved in the killing, as local community members demand swift justice for the victim.
