Seven prison officials suspended following inmate escape from Gazipur womens jail

Authorities have suspended seven prison staff members at the Kashimpur Central Women’s Prison following the escape of a female inmate earlier this week. The disciplinary action, confirmed Saturday by Jannatul Farhad, an assistant inspector general and spokesperson for the Department of Prisons, targets three matrons and four female guards for negligence of duty.
The incident occurred Thursday afternoon as approximately 40 inmates were engaged in work activities within the prison compound. Officials stated that 21-year-old inmate Mosammat Rimpa managed to slip away by exploiting a lapse in supervision. Rimpa, a resident of the Raipur area in Meherpur’s Gangni upazila, had been serving a three-month sentence following a conviction by a mobile court in Dhaka.

Prison authorities conducted exhaustive searches throughout the facility immediately following the disappearance, but failed to locate the inmate. Consequently, prison superintendent Shirin Akter filed a formal case at Konabari Police Station on Friday afternoon.
Local law enforcement has launched an investigation and a search operation to recapture the fugitive. According to Konabari Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Iftekhar Hossain, police teams are currently working to determine the escapee’s location and facilitate her return to custody.
