A severe seven-kilometer traffic gridlock has paralyzed a significant stretch of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Thursday, leaving commuters stranded for hours and disrupting schedules across the Comilla region. The congestion, which began at approximately 6:00 a.m., spans the area from Hasanpur to Gouripur in the Daudkandi upazila.
According to the Daudkandi Highway Police, the tailback originated from a multi-vehicle accident that occurred late Wednesday night near Bhaberchar in the Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj. The aftermath of the collision hindered traffic flow, creating a bottleneck that has severely impacted travel for those heading toward Chittagong.

Travelers reported grueling delays, with some motorists spending hours to cover a distance of only a few kilometers. Tapas Chandra Saha, a local school teacher, described being stuck in the Hasanpur area, noting that it took him two hours just to navigate six kilometers of the highway. Commercial transport operators echoed these sentiments, reporting that the congestion effectively halted progress for hours during the peak morning commute.
The gridlock has also raised concerns for students sitting for public examinations. Candidates traveling toward the Dr. Mosharraf Foundation Degree College in Elliotganj expressed anxiety over whether they would reach their testing centers on time, as the heavy traffic forced them to navigate a precarious commute toward the exam venue.

Daudkandi Highway Police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Iqbal Bahar Majumdar stated that law enforcement officers are working continuously on the highway to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic movement. Authorities remain on-site, attempting to manage the flow of vehicles as frustration mounts among stranded commuters.
