In Noakhali, the employees of the private power plant ‘Hosaf Power Plant Limited’ have blocked the road to protest against the dismissal of six officials including two engineers. At that time, they protested by stopping the traffic by leaving tree trunks in the middle of the road.

This program was held on the Noakhali-Comilla highway in front of the 113 MW power plant of Mir Warishpur of Begumganj district on Thursday around 4:15 pm. At this time, traffic on the road was stopped for about half an hour. After receiving the information, Begumganj police arrived at the scene and removed the angry officers and employees from the road, the traffic flow was normal.

The agitating officers and employees complained that they have been working in this plant for a long time. But their salary became irregular from September 2025. Similarly Eid bonus was not given properly. If you protest about these issues, instead of solving the problem, the employees are laid off without notice. An employee of the plant died a few days ago due to lack of treatment due to non-payment of regular salaries. They have been demanding compensation to the families of the slain workers along with other facilities of the plant.

The officials and employees said that when they came to the gate of the plant this morning, they found out that six officials, including two engineers, have been dismissed from their jobs without any prior notice. The plant in-charge could not give any reply on the matter. So they are forced to go into agitation and are holding road blockades and protest programs. They said that if the unfairly dismissed workers are not reinstated along with the regularization of salaries and allowances, a major program including plant shutdown will be called.

Among the protestors, shift engineer Mazharul Islam Rizvi said, “When I came to the plant in the morning and entered through the gate, the janitor gave me a letter of dismissal.” However, no notice was given to me before this.

Plant in charge. Alamgir Hossain told the media persons present that the discharge letters of six staff were sent to him from their Dhaka office this morning. Then he only gave them those letters. He does not know anything beyond that. He informed the higher officials by e-mail about the protest they did today.

Begumganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamsuzzaman told Prothom Alo that the plant staff blocked the road to demand salary. Immediately after receiving the information, the police went and explained them and removed them from the road. The in-charge of the plant has been asked to discuss the matter with the owner.
