Rajshahi faces 13-day rolling power cuts with 6 hours daily outage

Residents in various areas of Rajshahi will experience daily power outages for up to six hours between May 10 and May 24, as Northern Electricity Supply Company PLC (Nesco) undertakes essential upgrades to its electrical lines. The planned disruptions, totaling 13 days with May 15 and May 22 exempted, aim to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the upcoming Eid al-Adha festival.

Nesco stated in a notice signed by Executive Engineer Anwar Hossain that the outages are necessary for trimming tree branches along 33 kV and 11 kV lines. Power will be suspended daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the designated zones.

Specific areas affected by the outages include Dewanpara, Bakhrabaj, Amin Mor, Chairman Mor, Nazir Mor, Belghoria, Paschimpara, and Ukil Mor on May 10, under the Dewanpara feeder. On May 11, areas around Rajshahi University, such as Jalil Mor, Meherchandi Paschimpara, Khandakar Mosque, Zia School, Budhpara, Ganir Dhalan, and Mohanpur Chakpara, will be without power due to work on the university station feeder.

The sugar mill feeder will impact Khattakhali Bazar, Adarsha College, New Emadpur, Ruposhidanga, Horian Bazar, Sugar Mill, Mridhapara, Tentultola, and Bypass on May 12. Dewanapara feeder areas, including Goaltola, Shyampur Thunderpara, Shyampur Mollapara Eidgah, Shyampur Madhya para, Shyampur Nagarpara, and Shyampur Water Purification Plant, will face outages on May 13. Meherchandi 33 kV and Koraitola feeder areas, such as Koraitola Mor, Dayrapak Mor, Reza Cold Storage, Paschim Budhpara, and Utsha Block Factory, are scheduled for power cuts on May 14.

Following a break on May 15, power will be cut on May 16 in areas like Hazarpukur, Kaliapara, Mohanpur Hazampara, and Madhya Budhpara, serviced by the Bonogram feeder. The Katakhali overhead feeder will affect Bangla Truck, Paharpur, and Kapasia Talukdar/Sardarpara on May 17. On May 18, Kapasia feeder areas including Katakhali Bazar South, Belghoria Road, Bakhrabaj Mollapara, Samsadipur, Mirkamari, Kapasia Paschimpara, and Pak Islampar will experience disruptions. Kismat Kuchandi, Kuchandi, Sonarpara, and Bamonshikhar (Ma Bhata) under the Bonogram feeder are slated for outages on May 19.

Further planned outages include Katakhali Bazar, Emadpur, Sucharon, and Katakhali Municipality areas on May 20, under the Katakhali overhead feeder. Kapasia Bazar, Fakirpara, Bhangra Paschimpara, and Bhangra, serviced by the Kapasia feeder, will be affected on May 21. On May 23, Maskatadighi, Katakhali Bazar, Bihas, Choudhapai, and the Meteorological Office area, under the Bihas feeder, will have no electricity. Finally, on May 24, areas under the Padma Residential feeder will be without power.

Nesco has expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to its consumers.
