Railway employee dies after stabbing in Dhaka; woman arrested

A 33-year-old railway employee was killed in Dhaka’s Mohakhali area on Saturday following a stabbing incident rooted in a personal dispute. The victim, identified as Mamun Bhuiyan, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) that evening.

According to police, the altercation occurred around 1:30 p.m. at a rented residence in the TB Gate area of Mohakhali. Authorities report that a 30-year-old woman, Beauty Akter, allegedly attacked Bhuiyan with a knife, inflicting severe wounds to his abdomen and sensitive areas of his body. Both the victim and the suspect were reportedly from the Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.

Bhuiyan, who served as a second officer with Bangladesh Railways, was initially rushed to the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital by local residents. Due to the severity of his condition, he was subsequently transferred to DMCH, where he passed away at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Family members noted that Bhuiyan had recently begun his role with the railway department after being appointed five months ago. He was married, and his wife, who is currently pregnant, remains at their family home in the village.

Banani Police Station Sub-Inspector Md. Tarek Hasan confirmed that Beauty Akter has been taken into custody in connection with the homicide. The victim’s body has been transferred to the DMCH morgue to undergo a post-mortem examination.
