Prominent Daulatdia fish trader files lawsuit following violent assault and robbery at wholesale facility

A prominent fish trader at the Daulatdia ferry terminal in Rajbari’s Goalanda upazila has filed a formal police complaint following a violent attack and robbery at his place of business. Chandu Molla, a well-known figure in the regional fishing industry, reported that a group of armed assailants targeted his warehouse on Friday afternoon, leaving two of his relatives injured.

According to the complaint filed with the Goalanda Ghat Police Station, the altercation began when three named suspects—Ramzan Sheikh, Zainal Sheikh, and Amin Mondal—along with several unidentified individuals, arrived at the facility armed with domestic weapons. Molla alleged that the suspects assaulted his cousin, Momin Mondal, with a sharp blade, inflicting a severe head injury. His nephew, Shahadot Bepari, was also beaten when he attempted to intervene.

Local residents rushed to the scene following cries for help, at which point the attackers fled. Both injured men were subsequently transported to the Goalanda Upazila Health Complex for urgent medical treatment.

Chandu Molla, who was not present at the time of the incident, claimed the attackers targeted his business to damage his professional reputation. He further alleged that the group ransacked the premises and stole approximately 270,000 taka kept in cash boxes.

Officer-in-Charge of Goalanda Ghat Police Station, Shafiqul Islam, confirmed that the complaint was processed as a formal case on Friday evening. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities noted that the primary suspects have since gone into hiding, and no arrests have been made as of Saturday.

The incident has sparked significant tension and fear among the local fishing community. Several regional traders have publicly condemned the assault, describing the violence as unacceptable and demanding swift legal action against those responsible. Attempts to reach the accused for comment were unsuccessful.
