Police rescue child held at knifepoint by drug-addicted father in Gazipur

Police in Sreepur, Gazipur, have launched a manhunt for a 40-year-old man accused of holding a knife to his young son’s throat and threatening to kill him to extort money for drugs. The suspect, identified as Moksed Ali, allegedly recorded the chilling act and sent the video to his estranged wife to demand payment, before the footage subsequently surfaced on social media.
The victim’s mother, 30-year-old Yasmin Akter, filed a formal police complaint on Sunday night after receiving the harrowing video. According to the complaint, Moksed Ali is a long-term drug user who frequently subjected his wife to abuse, eventually forcing her to move to her parents’ home with their two children, 14-year-old Imran Hossain and 12-year-old Eva Akter.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening when Ali visited the madrasa where Imran was studying. Using a ruse, he told his son that his mother had been injured in an accident, successfully luring the boy away. Ali then took his son to a secluded location in Beldia village, where he allegedly drugged or incapacitated the boy before pressing a blade against his throat and chest while recording the threat.
The video circulated online shows the young boy lying unconscious while the father delivers his ultimatum, demanding money in exchange for the child’s life. Upon receiving the report, Sreepur police conducted a swift operation and successfully rescued the child, who was then transported to a hospital for medical evaluation.

Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam confirmed the rescue and stated that the department is pursuing legal action against the father. Ali has since fled the area and remains in hiding as authorities continue their search.
