Nine More Children Die From Measles, Toll Surpasses 350

At least nine more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday morning, according to a report from the Directorate General of Health Services. Of these fatalities, three children had confirmed measles, while the remaining six exhibited symptoms of the disease. This brings the total number of child deaths attributed to measles and its symptoms since March 15 to 352.

During the same 24-hour period, health authorities reported that 946 children across the nation presented with measles symptoms, and an additional 489 cases were confirmed. In total, 1,435 children were affected by measles or its symptoms within this timeframe. The report detailed that three children died from confirmed measles in Barisal, while three deaths with measles symptoms occurred in Dhaka, two in Khulna, and one in Sylhet.

Cumulatively, since March 15, there have been 291 reported deaths among children with measles symptoms and 61 deaths among those with confirmed measles. The Directorate General of Health Services indicated that since March 15, a total of 47,656 children have shown symptoms of measles, with 33,631 being admitted to hospitals. Of those hospitalized, 29,746 have recovered and been discharged. The total number of confirmed measles cases nationwide since March 15 stands at 6,979.
