Monsoon arrives in Bangladesh with isolated rain as heat persists

The monsoon season has finally arrived in Bangladesh, entering through the southeastern region of Teknaf nearly a week behind the typical schedule. While the onset of the seasonal winds has begun to spread across coastal areas, officials warn that it does not immediately guarantee widespread rainfall across the country.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the monsoon front is currently contending with a prevailing westerly low-pressure system. This atmospheric clash may temporarily suppress rainfall intensity over the coming days, as the current precipitation is largely attributed to the low-pressure system rather than the monsoon itself.

Meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa noted that the monsoon has firmly established its presence in the Chittagong region and along the southern coast near Satkhira. While these areas are expected to see continued rainfall today, other parts of the country will likely experience only isolated showers. Despite the influx of moisture, national temperatures are not expected to see a significant decline.
Heat remains a persistent concern for many residents. Although Sunday’s temperatures peaked at 36.5 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi, the weather office has not issued a formal heatwave warning, classifying the heat as isolated rather than widespread. Meteorologists expect similar scattered temperature spikes to persist in various regions throughout the day.

In the capital, the forecast remains uncertain. While the weather office’s early morning bulletin indicated the possibility of rain or thundershowers in and around Dhaka, experts suggest that significant precipitation within the city center is unlikely. Following a high of 35.2 degrees Celsius in the capital yesterday, residents continue to report high levels of discomfort despite the absence of an official heatwave.
