Measles-rubella vaccination started in the country, who can get it, who can’t be given it

Emergency vaccination program started across the country on Monday to combat the outbreak of measles. Under this program, the government has set a target of vaccinating about 1 crore 8 million children aged 6 to 59 months.

Minister of Health and Family Welfare Sardar Md. at ‘Little Angel Seminary’ in Zinda Park of Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj this morning. Sakhawat Hossain inaugurated the vaccination program.

Measles-rubella vaccination will be given at all permanent and temporary vaccination centers in the country from 8 am on all days except weekends.

Hasanul Mahmud, Assistant Director of Expanded Immunization Program (EPI), said that 30 upazilas and four city corporations of 18 districts of the country have been vaccinated under this program. The first phase of vaccination program started on April 5 will continue till April 25. And the program that started on April 12 will continue till May 12.

This nationwide measles-rubella emergency vaccination program started today will continue till May 20 in City Corporation area and till May 12 in other places.

Earlier, the measles-rubella vaccination program started in 30 upazilas of 18 districts of the country on April 5. In the second phase, the government started this program simultaneously in four important city corporations (Dhaka North and South, Barisal and Mymensingh) along with Dhaka North and South on April 12.

The Department of Health recommends that children who have a fever or are currently ill, be vaccinated after recovery rather than at this time. Apart from this, it is also said to refrain from measles vaccination if it is not completed four weeks after taking the first dose.
