Jagannath University mobilizes search efforts for missing sociology student

Jagannath University authorities have launched an urgent search for Mohammad Sirajul Islam, a student from the 20th batch of the Department of Sociology, who has been missing for five days. The student, who belongs to the 2025-26 academic session, was last in contact with his family on Thursday, June 18, after which his mobile phone became unreachable.
In response to the disappearance, Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Rais Uddin convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday to coordinate search efforts. The Vice-Chancellor confirmed he has already engaged with the Deputy Commissioner of the Wari Division police and relevant intelligence agencies to prioritize the investigation and locate the student as quickly as possible.

To address this and future crises, the university is in the process of establishing a “Quick Response Team.” This internal task force will be tasked with providing rapid, coordinated support for students, faculty, and staff during emergency situations. As part of the immediate search efforts, a delegation led by the university proctor and representatives from various student organizations visited the local police station on Tuesday evening to assess the progress of the official inquiry.
The university administration is working closely with the student body to amplify the search campaign. Family members have remained without word from Sirajul since their final telephone conversation last week. Faculty members and fellow students have expressed deep concern and continue to hope for his safe return.
