It can be known on May 3 whether the bail granted by the High Court to the former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, Selina Hayat Ivy, will be upheld in five separate cases, including four for murder.
The Appellate Division has fixed May 3 for the order on the individual leave to appeal filed by the state against the bail granted by the High Court in those five cases. The senior judge said about the hearing. The Appellate Division headed by Ashfaqul Islam fixed this order on Monday.

Out of those five cases, four are murder cases filed at Narayanganj’s Fatulla Police Station and the other is a case filed at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station on charges of assault and obstructing government work. In these five cases, on February 26, the High Court ruled on Ivy’s bail and granted interim bail for six months.
The state made a separate application to the Appellate Division seeking suspension of that bail. On March 5, the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division suspended the interim bail granted by the High Court to Ivy after the hearing. At the same time, the petitions of the State party are fixed for hearing in the regular bench of the Appellate Division. The hearing was held today on the application of the state party.

Deputy Attorney General Fatema Akhter heard the case on behalf of the state. Senior lawyer Sara Hossain heard on behalf of Ivy, accompanied by senior lawyer Motahar Hossain (Saju) and lawyer SM Hriday Rahman.
Ivy was arrested by the police from her home in Deobogh of Narayanganj city in the early morning of May 9 last year. Later, he was arrested in three cases of murder and two cases of attempted murder filed in connection with the suppression of the anti-discrimination student movement.
In the first five cases, Selina Hayat Ivy was granted bail by the High Court on November 9 last year. The State filed five separate appeals against this bail in the Appellate Division. After the hearing, the Chamber Court suspended the bail granted by the High Court on November 12 last year and sent the petitions of the state to the regular bench of the Appellate Division for hearing. The petitions are pending hearing in the Appellate Division.
After being granted bail by the High Court on February 26 in five cases in the second phase, Ivy was arrested in two more cases. He was arrested in two (allegation of murder) cases filed on September 11, 2024 and June 30, 2025 at Siddhirganj police station in Narayanganj. One case shows the arrest on March 2 and the other on April 12.
Note that Ivy was the mayor of Narayanganj municipality from 2003 to 2011. Later he won three consecutive elections of the newly formed Narayanganj City Corporation.
