Intermittent Rain Forecast for Dhaka as Northern Regions Brace for Further Precipitation

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecasted intermittent rain and cloud cover for the capital throughout Sunday, as the country continues to grapple with the aftermath of a week-long period of severe weather. Meteorologists suggest that while Dhaka is unlikely to experience sustained rainfall, the day will likely be marked by a shifting pattern of sunlight and brief, scattered showers.
According to data from the meteorological office, the capital recorded approximately two millimeters of rainfall between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday. While the skies over Dhaka remain largely overcast, forecasters expect this trend of variable weather to persist through the afternoon, following a brief respite in rainfall that began last Monday.

The focus of the monsoon activity has shifted toward the country’s northern regions. Panchagarh’s Tetulia recorded 122 millimeters of rainfall in a six-hour window ending Sunday morning. Meteorologists anticipate continued precipitation across the Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, with intensity levels expected to increase starting Monday.
These weather patterns follow a series of heavy downpours that began on August 5, triggering widespread devastation across several regions. The disaster, which included catastrophic flooding, flash mountain runoff, and fatal landslides in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, has taken a significant toll. Official figures from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief indicate that the death toll from the floods, landslides, and torrential rain has reached 59 across seven affected districts.
