Taposi Rani, a 52-year-old resident of Rasulpur village in Satkhira, is facing a critical battle for survival as she undergoes treatment for a rare and life-threatening bone marrow disorder known as severe aplastic anemia. The condition, which was diagnosed after she was rushed to Bengaluru, India, following a sharp decline in her health last March, had left her bone marrow functioning at only five percent of its required capacity.
The financial burden of the diagnosis has pushed the family to the brink. According to her daughter, Jaya Rani Mondal, the family has already exhausted 3.2 million taka on medical expenses. These funds were raised by selling and mortgaging family land, supplemented by the generous contributions of relatives. While the primary phase of the medical intervention is complete, Taposi Rani remains in a fragile state, requiring an ongoing, costly regimen of medications and frequent diagnostic testing to ensure her recovery.
With their savings depleted, the family is now struggling to cover the essential follow-up care necessary to prevent a relapse. Jaya Rani Mondal has issued a public appeal for financial assistance to ensure her mother can continue the life-saving treatment.
