Hospital Discharges Accused Student Leader Following Medical Clearance in Rape Case

Comilla Medical College Hospital authorities discharged Jisan Mia Pradhan, a central leader of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, on Tuesday after a medical board declared him fit. The discharge, which occurred at noon, followed four days of hospitalization that had prevented law enforcement from presenting the suspect before a court following his arrest in a rape and forced abortion case.
Mohammad Shahjahan, the hospital’s acting director, confirmed that the four-member medical board concluded its observation on Monday, finding no medical grounds for Jisan to remain under care. The suspect, identified as the organization’s central assistant secretary for international affairs and former president of the Comilla West district branch, had been under police guard throughout his hospital stay.

The 28-year-old was arrested late Friday after a case was filed against him by a widow from Comilla’s Daudkandi area. According to police reports, the woman alleged that Jisan had engaged in a romantic relationship with her, coerced her into a forced abortion, and subsequently attempted to evade marriage by orchestrating a fake kidnapping.
The sequence of events began on June 11, when Jisan’s family filed a general diary at the Daudkandi Model Police Station claiming he had disappeared. While his family alleged he was found unconscious at the Laksam Railway Junction on Friday night, investigators maintained that Jisan had staged his own disappearance to avoid marrying the victim.

Police stated that Jisan had spent days in hiding before being located. Following his discharge from the hospital on Tuesday, authorities confirmed he remains in police custody and was expected to be produced in court later in the day. The case has drawn significant attention due to the suspect’s attempt to use medical grounds to delay legal proceedings after the allegations surfaced.
