Police launch manhunt after nine-year-old girl found murdered in Rangpur jute field

Police in the Taraganj sub-district of Rangpur are investigating the brutal rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl, whose body was discovered in a jute field over the weekend. Authorities have yet to make any arrests three days after the crime, sparking outrage within the local community.

Taraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ruhul Amin confirmed that preliminary findings from the inquest report indicate signs of sexual assault. While investigators are awaiting a formal autopsy report to definitively confirm the cause of death, Amin emphasized that the case is being treated with the highest level of priority. He pledged that law enforcement is working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators as quickly as possible.

The victim’s father filed a formal case on Sunday charging unknown individuals with rape and murder. According to the case documents, the child’s body showed signs of extreme physical violence, including severe trauma to the eyes, internal cranial injury, and lacerations on her right arm. The body was released to the family following an autopsy and was laid to rest in a local cemetery on Saturday night.

Local residents and officials have pointed toward the site of the discovery as a known haven for criminal activity. The jute field, located just 200 yards from the victim’s home, has long been identified as a hub for drug users and dealers. A local union council member noted that the secluded area frequently draws young men on motorcycles, fueling suspicions that the illicit activity in the area may be linked to the tragedy.

The victim had been reported missing since Friday afternoon, when she left her home to play following a domestic disagreement with her mother. Her body was recovered from the field the following morning.

As the investigation continues, the victim’s mother has issued a desperate plea for justice, demanding the immediate identification and execution of those responsible for her daughter's death. Police maintain that they are aggressively pursuing all leads to bring the culprits to account.
