Four dead, one injured after truck strikes van in northern Bangladesh

Four people were killed on Sunday afternoon when a speeding truck struck a motorized van in the Domar sub-district of Nilphamari, according to local authorities.

The collision occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the Panga Matukpur Union area. The victims were identified as 30-year-old Pratibha Rani Roy, her two children—six-year-old Yadav Roy and eight-year-old Bipasha Roy—and their relative, 35-year-old Parimal Roy. All four were residents of Nadiapara village.

Local police reported that the victims were traveling to a social function in the Moraldanga village of Boragari Union when the truck struck their van from behind. The impact forced the vehicle off the road and into a roadside ditch.

First responders transported the victims to the Domar Upazila Health Complex, where attending physicians declared them dead on arrival. Another passenger, 40-year-old Sahidul Islam, sustained critical injuries and was subsequently transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment.

Following the collision, the truck lost control and struck a nearby tree, coming to a halt. The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Officer-in-Charge of Domar Police Station, Md. Habibullah, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
