Engine fault, ALM sick with smoke, Chattala Express with 800 passengers stuck in Feni

As soon as the train from Chittagong to Dhaka entered Feni station, smoke suddenly started coming out from the ‘tablet cover’ of its engine. An Assistant Locomaster (ALM) of the train fell ill due to fumes while repairing it. The train is stuck with about 800 passengers due to engine failure.

This incident happened on Tuesday morning in the Chattla Express train. The sick ALM’s name is Mohammad Kawsar. Railway workers immediately rescued him and sent him to Feni General Hospital.

Officials of Feni railway station said that the Chattla Express train running on Dhaka-Chittagong route entered Feni station at around 7:50 am. At this time, the small chamber covers of the train engine, which are known as ‘tablet covers’, began to emit smoke. When ALM Mohammad Kawsar saw it, his face and airway were damaged by the smoke.

Passengers suffered as the train got stuck due to engine failure. A passenger Mustafa Kamal said, “The train has been standing for a long time. Later I heard engine failure. Now I am waiting for the train to leave.

Stationmaster of Feni Railway Station Mohammad Harun told Prothom Alo that a relief (rescue) train is scheduled to arrive from Laksam. When it arrives, the train will leave again. Passengers are being miked for patience. He also said that many of the passengers who were supposed to board this train from Feni have handed over their train tickets and left for their destination by other transport.
