Dhaka authorities order removal of roadside waste at Aminbazar within 30 days

Dhaka District Administrator Farida Khanom has issued a 30-day ultimatum for the removal of long-standing waste piles lining the Dhaka-Aricha highway in the Aminbazar area. The directive, delivered following an onsite inspection on Sunday, mandates the immediate clearance of debris that has blighted a two-kilometer stretch of this vital gateway to the capital.

The district administration identified the accumulated waste as a significant public health hazard, noting that the persistent stench and environmental degradation have caused extensive distress to local residents, commuters, and travelers. Khanom emphasized that the current conditions at such a prominent entry point into Dhaka are untenable and require urgent administrative intervention.

To address the root cause of the pollution, the district authority plans to establish a permanent waste management facility on suitable state-owned land located away from residential zones and major transport corridors. This move is intended to eliminate the need for roadside dumping and provide a sustainable, long-term solution for the area’s waste disposal.

Following the removal of the existing waste, the district administration intends to reclaim the land to improve the aesthetic and environmental quality of the highway. The plan includes leveling the ground and initiating a greening project, where various species of environmentally friendly and ornamental trees will be planted as part of a broader government reforestation initiative.
